Health and Social Care

Entry requirements would usually be one of the following: 

One of the following: 

• 48 UCAS Points (can be general studies) 

• Access to HE from a QAA recognised Access to HE course 

Plus: 

• Normally, Maths and English at level 2 or above (grade 4, or previously C) or equivalents such as: level 2 adult numeracy/literacy level 2 key skills/application of number 

Personal qualities: 

• You must be able to demonstrate through an informal discussion your potential to be caring and compassionate and the ability to develop meaningful relationships with colleagues, service users and carers. 

DBS and placement: 

• As part of this programme of study you will be required to have a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You will be required to pay the cost of this. You may be able to supply an existing DBS but this must be within 3 years of issue. A DBS must be in place before you start your placement. Please note: if your DBS comes back with a restriction which could stop you from accessing a placement you will not be able to complete the programme.  

• You must have the opportunity to complete 200 placement hours per year, either voluntary or in paid employment 

Other information: 

• As part of this programme, you will be required to engage in practical/ experiential learning sessions. Please note: for these sessions you will be expected to have long hair tied back. 

• Students will be required to purchase a polo shirt in preparation for starting the programme.

Foundation Degree in Assistant Practitioner in Health and Social Care or 240 credits (of which 120 credits are at level at 4 and 120 at level 5) from an equivalent health and social care programme.

• BBC at A Level.
• DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma.
• A combination of qualifications, which may include general studies.

If you are in the process of completing the FdSc Professional Practice in Health and Social Care at UCNL or UCDon and are looking to progress your career as a registered professional, we would welcome an application from you. Please note the different application routes below:

• Completing the level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care means you can apply via UCAS to be considered for entry at Year 1 of your chosen professional degree
• Completing the full two year FdSc to level 5 means you can apply to be considered for entry in to Year 2 of this professional degree. This is a direct application process in accordance with the partnership arrangement between Sheffield Hallam University and DN Colleges, not via UCAS. Please note that places to commence this course in Year 2 are limited.

Nursing Associate Apprenticeships & Assistant Practitioner (Health) Apprenticeships will be considered on an individual basis and could enable you to commence this programme from year 2.

• Degrees will be considered on an individual basis and if you already hold a first degree with an upper second class honours or above, you may be eligible to study our pre-registration MSc Adult Nursing

IELTS

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 7.0 in reading, listening and speaking and 6.5 in writing, or a recognised equivalent. If your level of English language is currently below IELTS 7.0 we recommend you consider an appropriate Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve the required level of English.
