UCDon celebrates triple 100% student satisfaction in Criminal Justice degree

Posted: 11 August 2025

Following the release of the latest National Student Survey (NSS) results, we’re proud to share that our BA (Hons) Criminal Justice degree programme has once again achieved a 100% satisfaction rating for teaching and learning. This marks three consecutive years — 2023, 2024, and 2025 — of exceptional student approval.

What makes this programme stand out?

The full-time and part-time degree offers more than theoretical knowledge, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system. It addresses critical questions such as why individuals offend, how the system operates, and how students can contribute to its improvement.

“Achieving 100% student satisfaction for three years running shows how committed we are to providing a supportive and engaging learning experience. Our Criminal Justice programme stands out because students feel truly seen and supported from day one, with expert teaching and real-world opportunities that prepare them for success beyond graduation” said Thaleia Ashley, Curriculum Leader Social Sciences and Humanities.

The curriculum combines rigorous academic study with practical skill development. Covering topics from Psychological Approaches to Policing and Prevention, and delivers an in-depth exploration of the complexities surrounding crime, justice, and society. There is also a strong emphasis on employability, with embedded work experience, dedicated career support, and well-established links to regional employers in Doncaster.

Final year student Richard added, “The teaching in the course has been exceptional in supporting my progression. The lecturers break down complex legal concepts clearly and relate them to real-world scenarios, which helps deepen my understanding. Their guidance has encouraged me to explore different learning styles and think critically, allowing me to see real growth in both my knowledge and academic performance. The supportive teaching environment has boosted my confidence and motivated me to push myself further, both academically and personally.”

Course strengths

Small class sizes and expert academic staff foster a supportive and engaging learning environment. The programme is designed to be inclusive and accessible, welcoming recent school leavers, mature students, and those with prior professional experience in the sector.

Carmen Hancox, Criminal Justice Programme Leader said, “This kind of approach we’ve created makes it easier for everyone to dive deeply into the subject matter, encouraging curiosity and open dialogue. Students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their perspectives, and challenging ideas in a respectful space. This support builds their confidence not only in their academic abilities but also in their critical thinking and communication skills, helping them to grow both personally and professionally throughout the course.”

Looking forward

Over the past three years, the degree programme has steadily expanded to meet growing demand. This expansion has enabled University Campus Doncaster to offer more places, welcoming an increasing number of students eager to engage with both the academic and practical aspects of criminal justice.

“Over the past three years, our degree programme has steadily expanded to accommodate increasing student demand. This growth has allowed us to welcome a more diverse cohort, enriching the learning environment.
