Disability support

Information for needs assessors

Facilities, on-campus support and access at UCDon and UCNL, to support study needs assessments.

Overview

How we work with students

We contact students who disclose a disability from August, to offer a meeting and, if they wish, an Additional Support Plan. A plan needs no evidence and can be requested at any time. We liaise with tutors and support services to put support in place.

On-campus provision

Support and facilities

On-campus wellbeing, counselling and academic skills support across both campuses.

No DSA-funded NMH is provided by DN Colleges Group. DSA-funded NMH sessions are able to take place on campus; however, this is to be arranged by the student and the NMH provider. Support with arranging NMH sessions is available via the disability adviser, if required.

Free Read&Write and OrbitNote for campus and personal devices, plus Microsoft Office via student accounts. Learning Technologists support its use.

Loan laptops for students awaiting DSA funding. A bursary is available towards the £200 DSA equipment contribution, for fully enrolled students, via their disability adviser.

No lecture capture for in-person courses. Online sessions can be recorded. Own recordings should be agreed with the tutor first.

No university accommodation or halls of residence.

UCDon: Doncaster Council car parks around the site (nearest Chappell Park East and Church Way), with blue badge spaces there and outside campus.

UCNL: Free parking with blue badge spaces.

Lift access once enrolled at both campuses.

UCDon: ~15 min walk from Doncaster Railway Station, with frequent buses and taxis.

UCNL: ~15 min walk from Scunthorpe railway station, buses at the entrance. ~7 min walk from North Lindsey College across Central Park, with transport between for accessibility needs.

Shuttle: Runs between Doncaster and Scunthorpe; board at North Lindsey College from Scunthorpe.

Additional bursaries while studying, and temporary loans while awaiting student finance. See the UCDon and UCNL financial help pages.
