Simon Gomes MA

BA Graphic Design Course Leader

‘I am an experienced academic and design professional with a longstanding career in both higher education and the creative industries. Since 2005, I’ve led the BA (Hons) Graphic Design programmes at University Campus Doncaster, delivering both on-campus and distance learning routes. My role encompasses curriculum development, staff mentoring, student support, and managing relationships with external partners such as The University of Hull and national quality agencies. I’m also heavily involved in student recruitment, exhibition planning, and the creation of learning resources that reflect both academic standards and industry relevance. Over the years, I’ve contributed to validation panels, mentored new teaching staff, and worked consistently to enhance the quality and delivery of design education.

Alongside my academic career, I’ve maintained an active professional design practice. My industry experience includes branding and advertising consultancy for high-profile clients such as Pizza Hut, Toyota, Ford, the Co-op, and various NHS trusts. I’ve also worked freelance on branding projects for SMEs and organisations including Leeds United Football Club’s Foundation. Notable projects include the visual identity for Doncaster College and University prospectuses. My qualifications include an MA in Design (Branding), a PGCert in Education, and a PGCert in Academic Practice, and I’m proud to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I use a wide range of skills for both teaching and practice, including typographic design, concept visualisation, and client liaison, supported by the practical application of Adobe Creative Suite, AI platforms and apps’.
