Solar power stands out as Earth’s most abundant source of renewable energy, capable of meeting global energy demands several times over. This course focuses on photovoltaic (PV) systems, which convert sunlight directly into electrical power usable for various applications or feeding into local AC power networks.

The course comprehensively covers both stand-alone and grid-tied PV systems, emphasizing the integration of critical components essential for their operation. Throughout the course, diverse applications of PV systems are explored, illustrating their versatility and practical use cases. Additionally, the course highlights how energy-efficient equipment influences the size and cost of PV systems tailored for specific applications.

Tailored for technicians, operational staff with qualifications at level 3/4/5, or equivalent industry experience, as well as apprentices seeking retraining as photovoltaic systems technicians, the programme delivers the following learning outcomes:

  • Planning, developing, and constructing PV systems.

The Photovoltaic Systems CPD programme adopts a practical-oriented approach to achieve comprehensive learning outcomes. Participants benefit from a blend of lectures and workshop-based tutorials, which bridge theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiences.

Access to purpose-built renewable energy laboratories at University Campus Doncaster’s (UCDon) enriches learning, providing a conducive environment for practical sessions focused on photovoltaic systems.
