Course Structure
Access to HE: Humanities and Social Science (Criminal Justice and Social Work). All units subject to change
If a career in social work or criminal justice is your goal, this Level 3 Access to HE Diploma is the ideal foundation for the start of your journey.
You will complete five subject-specific skills units which will support you to successfully complete your studies and progress to HE. These units may include:
- Academic Writing Skills
- Research Skills
- Researching and Understanding Opportunities in HE
- Perspectives in Psychology
- Exploring Sociological Explanations
In addition, you will study a broad range of criminology, psychology and sociology/social work units which may include:
- Theoretical Approaches in Criminology
- Law and Morality
- Psychological Profiling
- The Role and Responsibilities of a Social Worker
- Child Development and Early Socialisation
You will be required to attend college 2 and a half days per week, as well as complete reading, research and assignment between attendance at college.
Assessment Methods
Assessment takes place at regular intervals throughout the course. Units take around 7 weeks to complete with assessment normally taking place at the end of the unit. A range of assessment methods is used including research tasks, structured questions, presentations and in-class tests

Students who have successfully completed the Health Professions Diploma have progressed to university to study:
- BA (Hons) Criminology
- BA (Hons) Criminology with Forensic Psychology
- BA (Hons) Psychology and Criminology

- BA (Hons) Working with children, young people and families
