Course Structure

Access to HE: Health Professions

If a career in healthcare is your goal, this Level 3 Access to HE Diploma is the ideal foundation for the start of your journey.

You will complete five subject-specific skills units which will support you to successfully complete your studies and progress to HE. These units may include:

  • Using numeracy in a health context
  • Academic writing skills
  • Researching and understanding opportunities in HE
  • Professional Behaviours: Nursing and Health Professions
  • Practical Biology Skills

In addition, you will study a broad range of health, biology and psychology units which may include:

  • Systems Physiology
  • The Structure and Function of Cells
  • Perspectives in Psychology
  • Medical Physics: Radiology and Medical Imaging
  • Psychological Disorders and Therapeutic Strategies
  • Mental Health
  • Legal and Ethical Issues in Health and Welfare Practice

You will be required to attend college 2 and a half days per week, as well as complete reading, research and assignment between attendance at college.

How You're Assessed

Assessment Methods

Assessment takes place at regular intervals throughout the course. Units take around 5 weeks to complete with assessment normally taking place at the end of the unit. A range of assessment methods is used including research tasks, structured questions, presentations and in-class tests

Intended Progression routes:

Students who have successfully completed the Health Professions Diploma have progressed to university to study:

  • BSc Nursing pathways (Adult, Mental Health, Paediatric)
  • BSc Midwifery
  • BSc Paramedic Science
  • Other degrees allied to health: BSc Podiatry, BSc Audiology, BSc Operating Department Practice and BA (Hons) Health and Social Care

Some students may also progress to a nursing degree apprenticeship.
