Celebrating success: UCDon class of 2025 graduate

Posted: 17 November 2025

Almost 200 graduates came together across two ceremonies at the Cast Theatre in Sir Nigel Gresley Square on Tuesday 28th October to celebrate University Campus Doncaster’s Class of 2025 graduation, a day filled with pride, joy and achievement.

DN Colleges Group Deputy Principal Daniel Fenwick opened the ceremony with heartfelt congratulations. “Today, we celebrate each of you and all the dedication, hard work, and growth that has brought you here,” he said. “Even if you don’t realise it yet, your achievements inspire those around you. Never underestimate the difference you make.”

The auditorium buzzed with energy throughout the day as nearly 550 family members and friends joined graduates, alongside representatives from the City of Doncaster and UCDon’s partners, including the University of Hull and Sheffield Hallam University, whose support has been vital in shaping the students’ journeys.

Keynote speaker Alex Staniforth, record-breaking adventurer, author, coach, and charity founder, delivered a powerful and inspiring address that had graduates on the edge of their seats. Drawing on his experiences surviving two of the deadliest disasters in Mount Everest history as a teenager, Staniforth also spoke candidly about challenges closer to home, including epilepsy, bullying, mental health struggles, and a lifelong stammer.

“We are not defined by what happens to us in life; we are defined by how we respond to those challenges, by how we rise after setbacks, and by how we keep moving forward. So, graduates, what’s your next step? Where will you go from here? You’ve opened countless doors and opportunities, and sometimes the path isn’t clear. But whichever path you choose, don’t fear failure; the only true failure is not trying at all. Don’t fear challenges either. Embrace them, trust yourself, and trust the people around you. They can help you not only overcome obstacles but also grow stronger through them. And above all, enjoy the journey.”

This year’s ceremony also celebrated community champions. ArtBomb and Doncaster Children’s University were honoured with the University Campus Doncaster Community Award for their outstanding dedication to supporting students and enriching life in Doncaster, helping to make the city a brighter, more inspiring place to learn and grow.

Director of HE Academic Registry James Wadsworth closed the ceremony with an encouraging and heartfelt message. “Take the skills, determination, and confidence you’ve gained here and step into your next chapter with excitement and courage,” he said, celebrating the day’s themes of growth, resilience, and endless possibility.

As cheers rang out across the auditorium, graduates left with more than just certificates and academic caps, they carried a sense of pride, achievement, and excitement for the future.
