University Campus Doncaster (UCDon) is celebrating the creative achievements of six second‑year BA (Hons) Fine Art and Craft students as their collective exhibition, Six Seeds Succeed, opened at ArtBomb, Doncaster’s hub for experimental and community-focused art. Positioned at the heart of the city’s cultural scene, the exhibition highlights the power of collaboration, material exploration and local identity as part of the students’ ongoing creative and professional practice development.
Hosted within ArtBomb’s atmospheric space dubbed “the lab” beside the historic Unitarian Church on Hallgate, Six Seeds Succeed, which includes student artists Debbie Blackmoore, Katherine Boughton, Kwai Chang-Kibble, Denisa Feniser, James Warner and Shirely Werner, offers visitors an immersive look at the practices the students have been nurturing throughout their three-year degree. Their works draw upon experimentation with materials, personal research interests and lived experiences, creating a dynamic body of work that reflects the diversity of creative voices within Doncaster’s emerging art community.
Presenting a broad spectrum of approaches, from print and drawing to mixed media and craft-based design. Each piece demonstrates the practical skills the students have developed through UCDon’s studio-led Fine Art & Craft programme, one that places emphasis on hands-on making, curiosity, and confidence in testing new ideas. Visitors are warmly invited to connect with the narratives behind the work and encounter the city’s next wave of artistic talent.
ArtBomb’s mission to nurture early-career creatives aligns closely with the values of UCDon. As Doncaster’s experimental arts festival and pop‑up space, ArtBomb champions dialogue around environmental, cultural and social issues, creating a platform where new artistic voices can be amplified and supported. The Six Seeds Succeed exhibition reinforces this shared commitment, placing UCDon students at the centre of a space designed to provoke thought and encourage community engagement.
Jennie Gilman, Programme Coordinator commented “ArtBomb’s high street space is a place for artists at all stages of their creative career to experiment with new ideas and share this process with passersby on Hall Gate. Following a successful exhibition last year, we are delighted to invite a new cohort of Year 2 Fine Art and Craft students to take over our lab space. This is a first chance for many of the students to present work outside of their campus – an important rite of passage for any emerging artist. We are growing a great relationship with faculty and students at UCDon, and are proud to be able to use the limited resources we have to champion local creative talent emerging out of Doncaster.”
Fine Art & Craft Programme Leader Andrea Sutton added, “Our second‑year students have approached this exhibition with an incredible sense of curiosity, dedication and professionalism. Six Seeds Succeed not only showcases their growing confidence as makers and thinkers, but also reflects the strength of Doncaster’s creative community. Exhibiting at ArtBomb gives them the invaluable opportunity to engage with real audiences, collaborate beyond the studio, and see their work take on a life of its own. I’m immensely proud of what they’ve achieved and excited to see how this experience will shape their future artistic journeys.”
