University Campus Doncaster and DN Colleges Group Higher Education community celebrated a major milestone this week with the launch of its redeveloped Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and expanded South Yorkshire Institute of Technology (SYIoT) learning and communal student spaces, with new students getting an early opportunity to experience the space that will play a central role in their academic journey.
Unveiled on day one of a packed welcome week programme for new and returning students, the state-of-the-art facility marks the next phase of Doncaster’s expanding Higher Education offer, providing a dedicated space designed to enhance teaching, learning, and research. With modern study areas, access to digital resources, and support from specialist staff, the centre has been developed to benefit learners, educators, and employers across the region.
As part of the launch, students and guests were invited to explore the new centre through guided tours, meet the LRC team, and take part in an informal networking lunch. The event highlighted how the LRC will support both individual achievement and wider workforce development, strengthening University Campus Doncaster’s reputation as a growing hub for higher education.
Phil Whitehead, Director of Academic Services & Digital Learning at DNCG praised the collaborative effort behind the project: “This LRC represents not just an investment in facilities, but in people. The Learning Resource Assistants (LRAs) have played an instrumental role in shaping this space and will continue to be central to the student experience, guiding, supporting, and enabling learners to make the very best of their studies. This launch is a celebration of their work as much as it is of the new spaces.”
Dan Bown, Vice Principal: Higher Education at DNCG, underlined the significance of the LRC for Doncaster’s growing higher education offer: “The opening of this new HE LRC is an important step in the next phase of Doncaster’s higher education journey. It provides a modern, welcoming environment that reflects the ambitions of our students and our community. Our higher education offer is expanding rapidly, and the LRC will be at the heart of how we nurture talent, drive aspiration, and prepare learners for success in their chosen careers.”
With the LRC now open, UCDon and DNCG is stepping confidently into the future of higher education, with ambitious plans already underway to broaden opportunities and inspire learners across the City of Doncaster. By combining modern, flexible spaces with pioneering teaching approaches and strong industry connections, the Group is cultivating a hub of knowledge, creativity, and opportunity. This investment not only empowers students to achieve their aspirations but also positions Doncaster as a leading destination for higher learning, a place where talent is nurtured, ambitions are realised, and the wider community benefits from a thriving, future-ready workforce.
