“As a busy mum, I thought a degree was out of my reach. However, studying at Doncaster with supportive and understanding lecturers who understand life can be complex has allowed me to achieve that dream. Alongside my academic work, the lecturers have supported me in pushing myself outside my comfort zone and building my work profile. The self-confidence I developed while studying at Doncaster will help me for the rest of my life.”
Education and early childhood spans over a short period of rapid development where highly skilled practitioners have the opportunity to enhance children’s experiences, resulting in improved outcomes.
Our Education and Early Years programmes have a strong emphasis on work-based, competency learning meaning you’ll be able to apply academic study to practice. This could be through your current employment with children or through a placement within an early years or education setting.
Our on-campus and distance learning courses cover a wide range of critical and contemporary theories which inform current practice in the field of education and early years. This will enable you to develop the knowledge to support children’s learning and development from birth to 18 years of age.
Awarded by the University of Hull but delivered through DN Colleges our degrees are suited to practitioners in employment who wish to gain further knowledge and develop their skills to ensure the best outcomes for the children they work with as well as people who are interested in breaking into the sector.

Course: FdA Children’s Learning and Development Distance Learning Level 4
Being Distance learning with online/pre-recorded sessions is an amazing asset – even outside of my work role, I have many family and community commitments in addition to being a busy mother of very young children, I would have been completely unable to access this course for at least another two years without the benefit of distance learning. This format is completely accessible and has allowed me to maintain all my commitments and still earn a degree in this area.
Lisa is a brilliant lecturer, always abreast of current affairs, pushing me beyond my own limitations to excel. In the first year alone, I have learnt new technical and research skills which will follow me throughout my academic life.
Naturally, finding balance hasn’t been easy but you really do feel that there is a supportive team to guide and educate you. From IT issues to academic, I have felt all the benefits of university life, without having to travel miles for on-campus.
